Hands-on at Reijmyre Glasbruk

During our Design Center team day in May 2022 we had the pleasure to visit and experience traditional glassblowing manufacturing in the boutique glasswork workshop at Reijmyre. Hidden in the forests of middle Sweden, the very forest that once supplied fuel to the workshop. Established in 1810, Reijmyre Glasbruk has been producing hand made glass products for over 200 years. Reijmyre is known for its genuine and stylish designs as well as high quality crystal and colored glass.

During our visit, the design team had the opportunity to try glass blowing into a mold, had a tour of the workshop, crystal cutting and engraving area as well as the extensive underground mold archive where many wooden and graphite molds from the workshop’s long history find their place. After the tour and glass blowing experience, the team gathered around a large table to brainstorm and come up with design proposals, later presented to the factory’s representatives.

Bonus: a short distance from the workshop, in one of the Glasbruk’s historical buildings, we participated in an intense blacksmithing masterclass, where we learned about the thought process as well as the manual labor needed to produce a piece of handforged iron.
